Pluto is one of the slowest moving planets in our solar system, taking 248 years to make a complete orbit around the sun. For the last 16 years, Pluto has been in the sign of Capricorn where we have experienced hard lessons and circumstances around corruption, finances, public status, and structures of government. In March of 2023 through June of 2023, Pluto entered Aquarius for the first time in our lifetime, giving us a sneak peak of what is to come for the next two decades. Pluto re-ented Aquarius on Jan. 20th of 2024, on the first day of Aquarius season. It will go retrograde and enter Capricorn once more in September before its long twenty-year stay in Aquarius beginning Nov. 19th, 2024.

Pluto Meaning

Pluto is the excavator and the transformer. It has the gift of cutting through illusion and staring straight into the truth of any matter, usually doing so by clearing out and excavating all the B.S. in front of it. Pluto is intense and it works relentlessly to reveal to us what we are not seeing clearly. Pluto will make us confront everything we have been trying to avoid, all the skeletons in the closet and the pain that has been pushed into the shadowy wastelands out of our view. Pluto does all of this so that it can transform what it finds. Transformation on a monumental scale is Pluto's intention and what it is here to offer to us.

Pluto in Capricorn Meaning and USA Pluto Return

Pluto entered Capricorn – the sign of financial systems, government, and authority figures – in 2008, and we then experienced the devastating and infamous financial collapse, affecting not just the US but had significant global impact, particularly in Europe, leading to a series of domino events that permanently changed the course of our financial systems and government as a whole. The past 16 years while Pluto has been in the sign of Capricorn has been particularly difficult not only because we have been dealing primarily with government, financial system, and corruption (Capricorn themes) but because the United States experienced during that time its Pluto Return, the exact degree of return happening in 2022. When the United States was founded, Pluto was in the fitting sign of Capricorn nearing its entry into Aquarius, the dawn of a new age and a time of revolution. (The American Revolution, the French Revolution, and the Haitian Revolution all took place the last time Pluto was in Aquarius.) The Pluto return marked a period of reckoning for our country, and now, Pluto in Aquarius is here to provide a new path forward based on what has been revealed and exposed through Pluto’s time in Capricorn. The outcome will depend on how well we paid attention to what was revealed, and how willing we are to take off the mask and confront what's been hiding.

Aquarius Meaning

Aquarius is many things: it is the sign of revolution, rebellion, progress, future-oriented/cutting-edge innovation, technology, humanitarianism, community, freedom, liberation, the metaphysical, and unconventionality. It is the sign of the lovable loner, who loves humanity from afar while never really finding their own place to fit in. It's so out of the box, so far into a future world of equality and practical idealism that there is no real community for this sign that yet exists. Aquarius is here to create it, to establish the world that they belong in, the world that exists in their lightning-quick, ingenuitive, creative brain, and bring it to life through their unique genius.

As Pluto enters Aquarius, and stays there for the next 20 years beginning on November 19th, 2024 this is now our task as a collective: to create a world that does not yet exist. To be at the forefront of creation and society itself.

Aquarius The Water Bearer

The last time Pluto was in the sign of Aquarius (a time when the planet hadn’t even been discovered yet) was in 1777-1798, a period sometimes referred to as the Age of Revolution. Those of us who are present on this planet for this moment in time are a part of a pivotal moment of change, and hopefully growth, for our nation and global society as a whole. Aquarius is a sign that is simultaneously about the individual and the collective – as in, it is about the figure eight of interconnection that exists between the two. This means that for Aquarius, liberation can only happen if we are doing the work as individuals and as a collective simultaneously. The age of Pluto in Aquarius will ask us to show up for our communities and our fellow people. It will ask us to do this in ways that see us directly dealing with our own inner work just as much as it asks us to go out into the world with open arms for one another. We must pair the work we have been doing as individuals with the work we do for our communities and each other. It is time for ideas to move into action. Caring for each other is not an ideology, it is an act of humanity -- a core aspect of what makes us human. We must deconstruct the oppressive systems within our psyche if we are ever to rebuild collective structures that come from a place of humanitarian, equality, and true liberation.

Capricorn, Cancer, Aries and Libra:

If you have Capricorn, Cancer, Libra, or Aries in your personal planets, the past 16 years (and what will be 17 years by the end of it) have been intense and probably difficult for you due to Pluto in Capricorn. Expect a release and a lightness as it finally moves on. New possibilities are opening up, on a personal and collective level, and the last 16/17 years are a cycle that is now coming to a close.

Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio:

The next 20 years will see huge transformations in your life and changes in who you are at a personal level. More to come on this in future articles, but know that there are two decades for these changes and transformations to take place, so no need to worry, you’ll have time to adjust. What comes from this transit is a once in a lifetime opportunity to embrace the core of who you are and find true, authentic empowerment and liberation on both a conscious and subconscious level. It's no accident that you are here for this transit with the birth chart you have -- this transit is tied to what you are meant to experience and who you are meant to be.

Wrapping Up the Last 16 Years

The themes and issues that have been pervasive since 2008 are ready to be wrapped up, finally. What is likely to happen, is we will find movement forward in the first half of the year as Pluto takes off into Aquarius but then we will have to revisit those final threads in September when Pluto makes its final stop in Capricorn before moving into its long stay in the sign of Aquarius on November 19th, where then we will just have to see what it holds for us for the next two decades.
